30 April 2025
The Indian wind energy market maintains its accelerating growth pattern because of purposeful investments together with substantial project development and vital federal policies. Strong renewable energy development activities in India during April 2025 are led by three major companies, including Suzlon and Tata Power, alongside NTPC Green Energy. The integration of wind-based power generation with solar energy and energy storage technologies makes India a prominent international leader in clean energy development.
1. Suzlon’s Largest Wind Power Partnership with NTPC Green Energy
Suzlon secured its position as a leader in India’s wind energy industry on April 23rd, 2025, by procuring a 378 MW wind power order from NTPC Green Energy Ltd. The agreement between Suzlon and NTPC now amounts to a total 1,544 MW capacity with 120 S144 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) at 3.15 MW installed capacity each.
Project Capacity: 378 MW
Turbine Specs: S144 Wind Turbine Generators
Significance: Through this deal, Suzlon exhibits its dedication to fulfill India’s renewable energy objectives and performs a key function in developing the wind energy growth infrastructure.
2. GUVNL’s 250 MW Wind Auction Results
KPI Green Energy and Juniper Green Energy, together with Jakson Green and Inox Neo Energies, secured the 250 MW grid-connected wind power projects auction in Gujarat on April 23, 2025. The auction process takes place as part of GUVNL's (Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam) Phase IX wind power development approach since the winners delivered competitive proposals.
Winning Tariffs: KPI Green Energy won 100 MW quoting ₹3.64 (~$0.0426)/kWh.
Juniper Green Energy and JGRJ Four Renewable won 50 MW each at a tariff of ₹3.65 (~$0.0427)/kWh and ₹3.66 (~$0.0428)/kWh, respectively.
Inox Neo Energies won 50 MW out of the quoted capacity of 100 MW at a tariff of ₹3.66 (~$0.0428)/kWh under the bucket-filling method.
3. Suzlon Secures 100.8 MW Wind Order from Sunsure Energy
In a bid to encourage a shift towards renewables, on April 17, 2025, Suzlon signed a 100. WG wind power order with New Zealand’s Sunsure Energy, which is aimed at helping India achieve its target of 500 GW of installed renewable energy by 2030. This project will be carried out in the Jath region of Maharashtra state in India. This order showcases Suzlon’s capability in catering renewable energy needs of large industries and IPPs in India.
4. Power Grid Corporation’s First Offshore Wind Farm
On April 9th, 2025, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd began a tender for undersea power cables for India’s Initial offshore wind farm situated on the coast of Gujarat. This 500 MW project is part of India’s intent to have 30 GW of offshore wind energy generation projects in the coming years.
Key Infrastructure: Undersea cables, an Offshore substation of 500 MW
Impact: Offshore wind farm plays a significant role in India’s renewable resources as it will help minimize the carbon footprint and contribute to a steady power supply to the grid.
5. Senvion India’s 3.1M130 Wind Turbine Launch
Senvion India introduced on 4th April 2025 its new 3.1M130 wind turbine, which falls under the MNRE’s Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM). This turbine, which is fixed to operate only in a limited space, becomes an innovation in the wind sector of India.
Turbine Specs: 130-meter rotor, 3.1 MW capacity
Manufacturing: more than 80% of parts are procured locally
Relevance: The configuration of the turbine is that the turbine uses the space required by making it optimal for installation in difficult locations.
April 2025 holds significant importance in the way towards realizing the future of India’s renewable and wind power. Starting from India’s first offshore wind farm to Suzlon getting landmark orders, India is undoubtedly moving towards setting itself up firmly in the clean energy space. These are the signs of optimum integration of wind, solar, and storage, along with strategic tie-ups and backing from the government that is steering India towards a clean energy future. India is steadily on track to achieve its green energy goals and objectives with continually improving and increasing new investments.
