  1. NTPC Secured 1,000 MW Solar Expansion in UPPCL Auction

On June 05, 2025, NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) was awarded a 1,000 MW solar project in an auction managed by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL). The advancement reaffirms NGEL's forward advancement in renewable energy in India, and it follows in line with the long-term clean energy aspirations of the NTPC Group. This 1,000 MW has been granted to NGEL through the tariff-based competitive bidding process. The project will be built on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis and will supposedly be supplying the UPPCL through long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) on commissioning.

  1. SECI invites bids for 2,000 MW solar project with energy storage system

SECI invited bids on June 12, 2025, by the State-owned developer to establish 2,000 MW of solar power with co-located energy storage facilities in India. February saw the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) put out an advisory on the co-location of energy storage systems alongside solar power projects to increase grid stability and cost efficiency. According to the bid document published on the SECI site, the process of selecting a solar power developer (SPD) in the project of the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) grid-connected with a total capacity of 1000 MW of generation and 4000 MWh of Energy Storage System (ESS) to be based on tariff-based competitive bidding (SECI-ISTS-XX).

  1. SEPC Bags Solar Power Project of INR 650 Crore (USD 75.85 million)

On June 12, 2025, SEPC received a Letter of Award of EPC Contract valued at INR 650 crores (USD 75.85 million) by Parmeshi Urja Kolkata (a subsidiary of India Power Corporation, Kolkata).

The contract is the Design, Engineering, Supply, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning (EPC) of a 133 MW Solar Power Project, all the related civil and structural works. It will be covering four districts of the Maharashtra state, Sambhaji Nagar, Dhule, Solapur, and Nanded, and is implemented under the Government of India, PM-Kusum Yojana, an agricultural and rural development program of the Government of India, under which all solar energy is also promoted and encouraged.

  1. KPI Green Energy unit secures new orders of 36.87 MW solar power plant

KPI Green Energy Ltd. on June 19, 2025, stated that its subsidiary Sun Drops Energia has received new orders to build a 36.87 MW solar power plant. The project has been awarded to the company by different clients under the captive power producer (CPP) business segment of the company, namely, a project under the distributed renewable energy bilateral purchase (DREBP) policy under the Gujarat Renewable Energy Policy-2023 and tariff order issued by GERC.

  1. MNRE Launched INR 2.3 Crore (USD 0.27 million) Innovative Projects Start-Up Challenge to Accelerate Rooftop Solar and Distributed Renewable Energy Innovations

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, has inaugurated the Innovative Projects Start-Up Challenge on Rooftop Solar (RTS) and Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Technologies, by the Honourable Minister Shri R. K. Singh on 21st June 2025 in New Delhi during the National Conference on Skill Development in the renewable energy workforce at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan (AAUB) stage.

This is a special national innovation challenge on finding and developing breakthrough solutions to the rooftop solar and distributed energy ecosystem in India. This is being pursued on the sponsorship of MNRE through the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) and in coordination with Start-up India, DPIIT.

Incentives and Support

The shortlisted innovators will be rewarded with a total of INR 2.3 crore (USD 0.27 million) across four winners (INR 1 crore (USD 0.12 million) for the 1st Prize, INR 50 lakh (USD 0.06 million) for the 2nd Prize, INR 30 lakh (USD 0.04 million) for the 3rd Prize, and 10 Consolation Prizes of INR 5 lakh (USD 0.01 million) each.
