The month of August 2025 saw momentum across the wind energy industry in India, as landmark projects, international collaborations, and new capacity additions continued to support India's renewable aspirations. Additionally, the 381 MW order from Suzlon with Zelestra is a significant step towards the growth of FDRE initiatives in three states, and the PPA between Gentari and Amazon Web Services highlights the importance of corporate cooperation in achieving decarbonization. Moreover, the fact that Juniper Green Energy commissioned a project in Gujarat early on is indicative of its operational efficiency and competence in executing projects. Furthermore, the Global Wind Energy Council's 2025 report predicts that wind power in India will surpass 107 GW by 2030, underscoring the sector's long-term expansion potential. These developments are indicative of a strong pipeline of projects and an increasing adoption of wind power in India's clean energy mix.
According to the Ministry of Energy & Environment, India ranks 4th globally in Renewable Energy Installed Capacity, 4th in Wind Power, and 3rd in Solar Power capacity, IRENA RE Statistics 2025.
On August 1, 2025, Suzlon Group received a 381 MW order from Zelestra India and its affiliates, marking a strategic milestone in Zelestra's clean energy journey with its first FDRE project. Furthermore, the partnership highlights an emerging industry trend, with businesses just beginning their renewable energy ventures selecting Suzlon as their preferred wind energy services provider. Having demonstrated its end-to-end capabilities, including the latest turbine technology and 25-year lifecycle services, Suzlon enables both corporate and utility players to achieve their decarbonization objectives with scale, reliability, and speed.
On August 5, 2025, Gentari, a clean energy solutions provider, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for an 80MW wind power project in Tamil Nadu, India.
This PPA marks the first concrete step towards the common goal of providing new, cost-effective, utility-scale renewable energy projects, following a collaboration agreement signed in 2023 with AWS. The project is expected to produce approximately 300,000 MWh of renewable energy annually and is scheduled to commence operation in mid-2027. By providing renewable energy, Gentari is also pursuing its objective of making clean energy a reality, while assisting AWS in its vision of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Juniper Green Energy declared that it had completed the successful commissioning of approximately 25 MW of wind power capacity on its 50 MW wind power project in District Dev Bhumi Dwarka, Gujarat, on August 5, 2025, under its subsidiary, Juniper Green Beam Private Limited.
The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) released its latest report, Wind at the Core: Driving India to Green Ambitions and Global Impact, on August 26, 2025, in the company of the Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
The August updates reaffirm the leading role of wind energy in India's renewable transition, both from domestic and international players. The growing maturity and dependability of the sector are evident in large-scale orders, such as those from Suzlon, corporate-supported projects like Gentari-AWS, and timely commissioning by Juniper Green Energy. The 107 GW capacity projection in the GWEC report further validates the belief in the growth path of wind in India. The sector has the potential to achieve not only the national targets but also to make India a major international centre of wind energy development, with supportive policies, increasing corporate demand, and established performance on the ground.
