The wind energy sector in India is on the rise, as it forms a fundamental part of the country's renewable energy plan in July 2025. Wind power is strengthening its position in powering the grid in India and reducing emissions with an increasing pipeline of utility-scale and hybrid projects. The high state government capital has built the momentum, especially in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, which has enhanced the pace of project building and infrastructure preparation. The regulatory mechanisms and long-term power purchase trends are enhancing the confidence of investors and banks, ensuring that projects become bankable. With developers advancing both onshore and offshore capacity, India is increasingly locating wind energy as one of the foundations of its energy mix, also in a clean energy mix.
SECI achieved a Milestone of 60 GW of Power Sale Agreements for Renewable Energy Projects
On July 01, 2025, Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited reached a milestone by signing more than 60 Gigawatts (GW) of Power Sale Agreements (PSAs) for Renewable Energy (RE) capacity. This marks a significant milestone in the nation's transition to a clean and sustainable energy system, and it is a sign of the positive trajectory towards the adoption of renewable energy in the country.
The Power Sale Agreements encompass a wide range of solar, wind, and solar-wind hybrid energy projects and altogether constitute a high stake in the growing RE capacity of India. Under these agreements, SECI ensures the long-term purchase of the power generated, which ensures payment security to the developer and investors, and demonstrates the viability of renewable energy enterprises in the country.
KPI Green Energy Gets LoI From GUVNL For 150 MW Wind Projects In Gujarat
On July 15, 2025, KPI Green Energy received a letter of intent to set up wind power projects with a total capacity of 150 megawatts in Gujarat. The letter of intent has been awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd., the company said in an exchange filing.
A Power Purchase Agreement with GUVNL shall be executed after obtaining the requisite approval from the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, it added. KPI Green Energy Ltd. is the solar and hybrid vertical of KP Group.
Inox Wind bagged a 51 MW order from First Energy
On July 23, 2025, Inox Wind Limited (IWL), India’s leading wind energy solutions provider, announced that it bagged a 51 MW order from First Energy Private Limited (FEPL), a Thermax Group company and a leading renewable energy solutions provider in the commercial & industrial (C&I) space in India.
This is the first order awarded by FEPL to Inox Wind for the supply of IWL’s 3 MW class turbines having 140-meter hub height and rotor diameter of 145 meters. FEPL will set up these turbines at its project site being developed in Tamil Nadu through its SPV First Energy 10 Private Limited.
Additionally, the order scope includes limited scope EPC services for the project, including supervision, as well as multi-year operations & maintenance (O&M) services post the commissioning of the WTGs, to be implemented through the subsidiaries of IWL.
Gujarat Led India’s Offshore Wind Revolution with INR 6,900 Crore Transmission Push
On July 27, 2025, India received a major breakthrough in its offshore wind potential when the Union Ministry of Power gave the go-ahead to the transmission infrastructure to evacuate 500 MW of offshore power in an offshore wind project off the coast of Gujarat. Power Grid received the project to be developed at INR 6900 crore (approximately USD 78.80 million) and was scheduled to culminate in March of 2029. This action was in line with the national goal of renewable energy in India and Gujarat, respectively, where the objective is to deliver a more reliable and clean power source.
The approved transmission plan comprised the construction of an onshore pooling station at Mahuva, a 190 km 400 kV transmission line between Mahuva and Vataman, and the development of an offshore substation in Gujarat. Offshore wind installation was to be connected with a commercial onshore grid via a 35-km subsea cable and a 10 km underground cable. This established an essential interconnection between the Arabian Sea turbines and that of the Gujarat grid, as noted by a power ministry official.
The July 2025 developments mark more than just the single event wins, as they signal the combined efforts towards developing wind power as a readily available and sustainable energy source. The fact that the ECI has surpassed the 60 GW mark of PSA, as well as the success of major players such as KPI Green Energy and Inox Wind in securing large orders, signifies the maturity and depth of the industry through the value chain. Meanwhile, with substantial investments into key transmission infrastructure, India has revealed its intention to integrate offshore wind as well and advance its renewable portfolio with the untapped potential. In combination, the measures are strengthening investor support, increasing energy access in the region, and helping India move towards a more regenerative and invincible power system.
