The month of June 2025 was a landmark in terms of project approvals, capacity addition, and new tie-ups in the wind energy sector of India. Karnataka topped with 1,300 MW of wind power capacity addition, and Bihar also gave tariffs to 312 MW of wind power plants to enhance interstate power generation. Major players such as Suzlon, Torrent Power, and Envision Energy declared big project wins and technological innovations. The growth of the sector was also reflected in joint ventures and the development of projects, including a 2 GW project proposed by NLC India and MAHAPREIT. These points are indications of the continued efforts by India to meet its renewable energy targets.

India’s Wind Energy Sector Soars with Record Projects and Partnerships in June 2025

  1. NLC India and Mahatma Phule to develop 2 GW of renewable energy

NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) signed a joint venture agreement with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) for the development of 2,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy projects on June 3, 2025. In a statement, the Ministry of Coal said the 2,000 MW capacity will cover projects across solar, wind, hybrid, floating solar, battery energy storage systems, pumped storage, and solar parks.

  1. Karnataka adds 1,331 MW wind power, emerges as national leader

On June 16, 2025, Karnataka emerged as the national leader in wind energy by adding 1,331.48 MW of wind power capacity in the financial year 2024–25, the highest among all Indian states. The achievement was recognized at the 'Global Wind Day 2025' celebrations held in Bengaluru on Sunday, under the theme 'Pawan-Urja: Powering the Future of India'. Energy Minister KJ George received the award from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi. Tamil Nadu and Gujarat followed Karnataka with additions of 1,136.37 MW and 954.76 MW, respectively.

  1. Bihar Regulator Approves Tariffs for 312 MW Wind Power Projects

On June 18, 2025, The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) approved the tariffs for 312 MW of wind power projects and the draft power sale agreements (PSA) to be signed between Bihar State Power Holding Company (BSPHCL) and SJVN, the intermediary procurer. The wind power will be from interstate transmission system-connected projects, with 200 MW to be procured from NLC India at a discovered tariff of INR 3.74 (~USD 0.043)/kWh, and 112 MW from Adyant Enersol at a tariff of INR 3.81 (~USD 0.044)/kWh.

  1. Torrent Power Secures 300 MW Wind Project Under SECI Tranche-XVIII, Expands Green Energy Portfolio

On June 18, 2025, Torrent Green Energy Private Limited, a subsidiary of Torrent Power Limited, won a 300 MW wind power project through a competitive bidding process. The project is part of Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) Tranche-XVIII tender. SECI issued the tender in March 2025 to select developers for setting up 400 MW of inter-state transmission system (ISTS)–connected wind power projects. Torrent received the official Letter of Award from SECI on June 11, 2025.

  1. Suzlon Powers Ahead with Third Successive 170.1 MW Order from AMPIN Energy Transition

On June 20, 2025, Suzlon secured its third successive order from AMPIN for a 170.1 MW project to be developed in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. In a major boost to India's clean energy ambitions, two of the country's leading Make in India champions-Suzlon Group and AMPIN Energy Transition-have come together once again to fast-track the nation's transition to a low-carbon economy by decarbonizing DISCOMs.

  1. Envision Energy Secures RLMM Nod For 5MW Turbine; Bags 2GW Orders

Envision Energy India has been granted permission for the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM) by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on June 21, 2025, for its new wind turbine model, which is 5MW - EN 182/5.0. Certified by DNV according to the standards of IEC61400-22:2010, the model presents a great technological advancement and shows increased efficiency, better ambient temperature robustness, and increased localization.

  1. In India, ACEN and UPC Renewables will lay down more than 500 MW of new renewable energy projects

On June 25, 2025, ACEN partnered with UPC Renewables, began construction of two major renewable energy developments in India: a 420 MW solar farm in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka. Such new developments will be the next crucial phase in the strategic growth of ACEN and UPC into one of the leading clean energy industries in the world, with a fast-growing market. The projects will start delivering clean electricity in 2027 and are projected to deliver up to 1,158 GW-h of clean energy annually, sufficient to power approximately 241,000 houses, and prevent more than 876,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.

Wind Energy Growth Continues

To summarize, June 2025 marked a major step towards India achieving its potential in wind energy with major additions to its capacities, the commencement of new projects, and the pro-wind policies. Public and Private players both played an active role in enhancing the wind power presence of India in various states such as Karnataka, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh. Technology and strategic alliances also improved the base of the sector. As a result of these, India is very much on its way towards attaining its renewable energy objectives and fueling its move towards a cleaner and greener future.
