According to a new report by UnivDatos, The Modular Bathroom Pods Market is expected to reach USD Billion in 2032 by growing at a CAGR of 6%. This is mainly due to the increasing demand for effective solutions to the construction of utilitarian premises, particularly in the hotel and clinic industry. Adding to this, the higher levels of urbanization and the shortage of housing also enhance units’ adoption because pods can be installed swiftly, and their construction does not require many employees. Moreover, green policies prompt the demand for environmentally friendly modular systems that are in line with green construction. The improvement in prefabrication technology provides high custom designs guaranteeing high quality, thus boosting the market.

As per the World Bank, in April 2023, some 56% of the world’s population – 4.4 billion inhabitants – live in cities. This trend is expected to continue, with the urban population more than doubling its current size by 2050, at which point nearly 7 of 10 people will live in cities.

With more than 80% of global GDP generated in cities, urbanization can contribute to sustainable growth through increased productivity and innovation if managed well.

Segments that transform the industry

  • Based on applications, the market is segmented into residential use, commercial use, and others. Commercial use is expected to grow with a significant CAGR during the forecast period (2024-2032). Commercial modular bathroom pods contribute to growth because they meet demands for effective, compact, and stylish designs in busy applications. These pods reduce the time of construction, or the time involved when undertaking a makeover, and would therefore be suitable for use in offices, malls, and public facilities. Commercial pods are being implemented where companies offer customized pod designs that include the use of intelligent fixtures plus the necessary compliance with safety and accessibility measures. Such integration into commercial projects is made easier by partnership relations with contractors and architects. This segment also increases its potential with growing investments in urban construction and property.

According to the report, the impact of modular bathroom pods has been identified with sustainability becoming a priority, regulations now emphasize the use of eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient designs:

Compliance with regulation – In June 2023, as per the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore:

Prefabricated Bathroom Unit (PBU) Acceptance Framework - To ensure that the different PBU systems meet the required performance standards, BCA has set up a PBU Acceptance Framework consisting of building regulatory agencies as well as industry experts to evaluate the design and materials used. PBU suppliers and manufacturers who intend to supply their PBU systems to be used at the mandated development sites should apply for acceptance.

Requirements for residential non-landed Government Land Sale sites – The use of PBU is required for all residential non-landed and residential non-landed components of mixed-use developments on Government Land Sale (GLS) sites from 1 November 2014 onwards. Further details on the requirement can be found in the Building Control (Buildability and Productivity) Regulations and in the prevailing Code of Practice on Buildability.
